So, you’ve finally tried press-on nails! This wonderful thing of beauty has become the go-to solution for many of us in giving that salon-quality nail we want whether for unexpected parties or just making time for yourself. And even though you think applying these nails is a tricky one, just wait until you try removing them! No one wants to damage their natural nails, even if the best press on nails are such a nice thing to have on. If you are wondering how to remove them safely, we’re here to give you some simple steps on how to do so.
Patience is key. Press-on nails are usually adhered with a strong glue to your natural nails, and being patient in the process of removal will not only reduce the stress you’ll get afterwards but also keep your natural nails safe from any damage.
Gather your tools. Just like what you did when you first applied the press-on nails, you will be needing your tools again, but this time, we’ll add a few things to our list:
- A bowl of warm water, or for a faster removal, an acetone
- Coconut oil usually works best, but if you have the budget, you can use cuticle oil.
- Your nail file and buffer to carefully separate your press-on to your natural nails
- Moisturising hand cream or lotion
Soak your Nails. Let’s start the process by giving yourself a nail spa treatment through the soaking method by filling your bowl with warm soapy water and dipping your nails so that the glue holding the press-on nails in place can begin to loosen and come off without the need of forcing it.
Try the Oil Method. However, if the glue is a bit tough, another effective way to remove it is to use coconut oil, olive oil, or cuticle oil. The oil can help dissolve the glue by letting the oil sit around the edges of your press-on nails and gently lifting the press-ons with a cuticle stick afterwards.
Use acetone for tough nails. And if it still doesn’t work, using acetone might just be the trick. Just be careful when using it because it dries your nails instantly, so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly and apply a generous amount of moisturiser to your nails after.
Buff and moisturise. Once everything is removed, smooth out your natural nails with a buffer and file the edges lightly. Moisturise your hands with lotion or a hand cream to keep them healthy after.
Be gentle on your nails just as you are to yourself.
Having press-on nails can level up any type of event you’re going to attend, and although it is challenging to put them on and remove them, it only requires you a little amount of patience as long as you know the technique on how to protect your natural nails. For sure, the next time you do this, it will be quick as a breeze. Happy manicuring!
