  1. Brushing

Many of us believe that brushing is sufficient to achieve good hygiene. However, the way you brush, the time you brush at, all affects your oral hygiene and brushing is one of the most essential parts of our routine. We do not only need to brush our teeth but also our mouth. Bacteria resides all over in our mouths and not just in our teeth.  Also it is important to make sure you brush at a 45-degree angle, near the gum line with both the teeth and the gum so that you can clean both simultaneously. Then brush your tongue, the roof of your mouth and your teeth and gums lightly. Make sure it is brushed lightly because brushing hard will lead to more harm than good.

Flossing is also very necessary for your oral hygiene because when you brush your teeth, you clean the surface of your teeth and remove plaque and bacteria from the inside of your teeth. This is where flossing comes in.  It gets rid of food residue and any substance like plaque or bacteria between your teeth. If you really want to take care of your oral health, you really need to make it a habit of flossing at least once a day.

  • Diet

The diet you take also impacts your oral hygiene. Meaning sometimes the diet we take and the food we take into our mouth can impact our teeth and our oral hygiene. If someone is to smoke and take food with very high sugar content, it could lead to plaque and tooth decay. If you want to prevent cavities and plaque from coming onto your teeth you need to take in a healthier, less sugary diet and prevent yourself from smoking to get a pearly smile.

When you visit the dentist regularly, the dentist will be able to keep your teeth healthy and up to date with all the treatments. Visiting your dentist every six months will help make your teeth picture-perfect.
